Photoshoot Day in Tribeca
Behind the picture-perfect, final photographs are the people and all the prep work. From planning to production ... here is a behind the scenes glimpse into our latest Paris Forino interiors shoot.
After the time that goes into designing a commercial building; from partnering with a developer, drawing intricate plans and elevations, specifying materials, finishes and color schemes … to procuring product and installing everything. The best way to end this layered story is photographing the final product! Just as the project itself is complex and involves many considerations and degrees of collaboration - so does the final photoshoot. The goal of the shoot is to capture the beauty of the project, from the materials and finishes specified, the way they carefully compliment the architecture of the building, and above all - to show viewers how the vision came together as a cohesive design. The final photography presents the potential of that space to be made into a new home.
When approaching a shoot, the first step is developing shot list, inclusive of every aspect of the project that needs to be captured. To do that, we consider the full scope and significance of the project. This one is luxury loft conversion in a landmarked Tribeca building, consisting of one penthouse and four loft-style condos, plus two floors of amenities spaces. The apartments boast 13 ft high ceilings, original wooden beams, cast iron columns, and south facing windows.
“When approaching the design, my primary focus was on complimenting the remarkable, original architectural details of the building with a striking yet natural palette. Ash wood is used extensively throughout the apartment. It is light, warm and serene. We paired this with very distinct and dramatic stone choices creating a modern and very sumptuous design” - Paris Forino
Paris shared that, “When approaching the design, my primary focus was on complimenting the remarkable, original architectural details of the building with a striking yet natural palette. Ash wood is used extensively throughout the apartment. It is light, warm and serene. We paired this with very distinct and dramatic stone choices creating a modern and very sumptuous design.” No expense was spared in these distinct and unique apartments, so she had free reign to specify and select premium materials, fixtures and finishes, down to careful millwork and custom hardware.
The impressive scale of the amenities spaces is unprecedented for the limited number of residents there will be in this quaint building. The two subterranean levels house the exclusive residents club complete with a kids and teens gaming room, a full fitness center, spa with sauna and steam room plus treatment room, meditation room, and a lounge. The building also includes storage and top of the line technology throughout.
Our shot list included all amenities and rooms within the main apartment, which amounted to eighteen spaces that we needed to capture. The apartment was staged with furniture and accessories for showings, but the intent of the shoot was to highlight the interior materials, hardware, millwork, and finishes that Paris specified. After a site visit to see the space as it stood and what we would be working with, we reached out to our team to get a game plan going and understand what props, equipment and more we would need for shoot day.
Meet our team! Genevieve Garruppo and Brittany Barb are the geniuses behind the camera, and the editing work that goes into the photos post-production. Gen is a seasoned pro at photographing interiors. After studying photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design, she got her start at Lonny Magazine and Architectural Digest before launching her own freelance business where she now captures residential and commercial spaces along with portraits and lifestyle.
Lauren Snyder and Morgan Smith were our stylists who brought in carefully curated props, florals, and accessories that breathed life into the interior space of this project. Lauren studied interior design at the Pratt Institute and worked in magazines, styling and personal shopping before she opened The Primary Essentials, her own specialty home and lifestyle shop in Brooklyn, NY. In the shop, she sources worldly goods with her trained eye from independent designers and artisans that have a subtle yet distinctive impact.
I’m Katie, and I lead up Paris’s marketing and communications. I’m in charge of keeping everyone on schedule, ensuring we capture all the shots needed and help make decisions on behalf of Paris as I anticipate how we will use these photos on our marketing channels, in the press, and beyond.
With our team briefed and the schedule set, we showed up on shoot day ready to make some magic. Once we loaded in equipment, props, and a delightful array of florals, we did a group walkthrough to set a detailed to-do list for the day ahead. We assessed the quantity of spaces to shoot, time and materials needed to set up each shot, and made sure to prioritize optimal natural light opportunities within the schedule. From there, we worked together to adjust and frame each moment in each room from the lower level amenities floors, up to the apartment.
With each shot, we captured a variety of full frame shots and closeups to showcase all angles and details of the project. We wanted the photos to feel warm, artistic, and livable - not too stark bright or sterile looking. We complimented architectural shapes, filled built-in shelves and donned surfaces with vases, home accessories and large, lush florals to breathe life and body into the vignettes.
With the eight amenity rooms and ten distinct spaces in the apartment, we captured a favorite selection of forty total shots that took us all day to capture! With variables like overcast weather, and two apartment showings during the day plus some continual construction in the building, we worked through any obstacle that came our way to ensure we captured beautiful content. Besides the breathtaking images that showcase Paris’s design in the most artistic and complementary way - the best part of shoot day was collaborating with this special group of creatives to yield inspired and intentional photographs.
